Today’s tutorial is going to walk you through how I obtained the data and created the following table, which shows the effectiveness of each team’s most commonly used Double Big lineup.
But first, a chart.
Yesterday, the Memphis Grizzlies ran 86 pick and rolls in their game against the Denver Nuggets. It was the most pick and rolls the Grizzlies have run all season, according to Second Spectrum tracking data.
That’s noteworthy because for a large stretch of the regular season the Grizzlies were unusual for hardly using any ballscreens relative to the rest of the league. But after the Grizzlies fired head coach Taylor Jenkins there was some reporting that suggested that Ja Morant was unhappy with his role on offense since it didn’t play to his strengths as a primary ballhandler.
Well, things sure seem different now. The chart below shows the Grizzlies pick and rolls per 100 possession on a ten-game rolling average.
